Last week Montgomery County enacted a new zoning code which went into effect on Thursday (10/30/14).  Maryland Horse Council President, Jane Seigler, attended a ceremony at MNCPPC on Thursday morning where they buried the old code and provided this photo (full info is after the photo)

New Zoning Code and Zoning Map are In Effect
The digital version of the new zoning code is now hosted with the rest of the County code on the American Legal Publishing website.  Find the zoning code (Chapter 59) in the Table of Contents list on the left-hand panel of the page.  Click on the plus symbol and select an Article.

The digital zoning map is available through the new Digital Zoning Finder tool.  The tool displays zoning data and a variety of other information about each property in the County.  Watch a video that introduces the Digital Zoning Finder.

The zoning code rewrite project is now complete and messages will no longer be sent out to this listserv. Consider subscribing to the weekly InfoShare e-newsletter  to receive updates from Montgomery County Parks and Planning.

Please direct questions to pamela.dunn@montgomeryplanning.org

Printed Copies of the New Code
Official printed copies of the new zoning code will be available for purchase from American Legal Publishing. To contact American Legal, email customerservice@amlegal.com

Old Zoning Code and Zoning Map

A digital version of the old zoning code (as it existed on October 29, 2014) will be available on the American Legal Publishing website.  Click here and then click on the blue tab that says "View the 2004 Zoning Code".

The digital map that displays the zoning in effect on October 29, 2014 and District Map Amendment G-956 will continue to be available on the Planning Department website.

Background

Planners have rewritten the zoning code and updated the zoning map to modernize antiquated, redundant zoning regulations, and to create new tools that will help achieve goals in community plans. The new zoning code and zoning map were adopted by County Council earlier this year with an effective date of October 30, 2014.

Great & Small Fundraiser @ Wyndham Oaks

Every other year, the boarders of Wyndham Oaks show off their philanthropic side when we host Horses on Pointe -- an exciting evening filled with musical rides by some of the best professional and amateur riders in the region, a demonstration of vaulting, and a feature performance by the Great and Small riders. The evening always concludes with the famous Wyndham Oaks drill team – featuring ALL of our instructors. It’s awesome.

This year, we’ve added a silent auction which will be held simultaneously. You can see the catalogue of goodies online.

Dress is casual.  Dessert and drinks will be served.

Date: October 25, 2014
Time: 7:15 p.m. (doors at 7:00 p.m.)
Tickets: $90 each, tables seat up to 10
RSVP required

Wyndham Oaks

We need your support more than ever. Our programs, which serve children and adults with a range of disabilities, are growing. We all know the power of the horse but imagine the impact when an autistic child speaks for the first time because of the bond they’ve found with a special horse. No one understands the human – horse connection more than you do. Great and Small can create more of these moments but cannot do it unless we raise the needed funds.

Many other barns in the area are already registered for tables at the event. Please, please get together with a group of your barn friends or other friends and show the Wyndham Oaks spirit. We always have wonderful representation at the event but we are not there yet. With your help, this year can be just as successful.

Horse Trailer Camping Now Available at Little Bennett!

Horse trailer camping area is ready to reserve!  Folks will need to call or stop by the Little Bennett Campground contact station to reserve it.  301-528-3430, 23705 Frederick Rd., Clarksburg, MD 20871.

Subject: urgent update on Canine Influenza

One of the area boarding kennels experienced an outbreak of Canine Influenza Virus last week, and with several dogs experiencing high fevers and pneumonia, and at least two canine fatalities. This is the first reported case in Montgomery County of this new virus, which only affects dogs.  Canine Influenza Virus resulted from a genetic mutations of the Equine Influenza Virus in 2004, which enabled the virus to infect and cause disease in dogs. It originally occurred in Florida, and has slowly been spreading. Canine Influenza Virus causes a respiratory disease in dogs similar to kennel cough, but is potentially more serious, with fatal pneumonia occurring in some 5% of cases.  In June '09, a vaccine was released for protection against this new, emerging disease, and we have administered several hundred doses so far without side effects, and have heard of no side effects from other veterinarians. We have been recommending the vaccine for any dog that will be coming into contact with a lot of other dogs, such as boarding, grooming, training classes, or shows.  In light of the recent outbreak, however, dogs that have more casual contact with other dogs, for instance, a dog that is taken for walks in public spaces, should be considered for the vaccine. Initially, it is a series of two subcutaneous vaccines, given two to four weeks apart, followed by an annual booster. If you have questions about the advisability of giving your dog the Influenza Vaccine, please call the office.
Meanwhile, it might be wise to keep your dog at home as much as possible, avoid taking him./her to dog parks and pet sotres and even areas in your neighborhood that have high traffic for at least this month.
